John Howell – a short biography
John Howell is perhaps the industry’s most high profile
specialist in international property law.
He set up John Howell & Co, a highly
specialist firm of English solicitors (lawyers) way back in 1979. On 1st September
2006 the firm changed its name to The International Law Partnership LLP, which more
accurately explains the work that it does.
The International Law Partnership is
able to offer legal and property investment advice in 34 of the world’s property
hot spots.
John Howell is senior partner in The International Law Partnership. He
lives and works in Covent Garden, London but deals with clients from all over the
world. He has been dealing with international work since 1985 and is well known
for providing entertaining and informative seminars about all aspects of buying
property and living overseas. Last year he presented seminars in England, Scotland,
Ireland, Norway, Sweden, France, Turkey and the US.
He is co-author of the Sunday
Times guides to buying property in Spain (October 2002, revised 2005), France (March

2003), Turkey (September 2004) and The Emerging Markets of Eastern Europe (September

He is also author of the two volumes of the prestigious Butterworth’s Encyclopaedia
of Forms and Precedents related to advising clients with international problems.
This is a hugely expensive 50-odd volume textbook for English lawyers.
He is also
the author of the guide to Setting up a Small Business in France (October 2005).
He has also written numerous articles and guides to international law and practice,
both for the general public and the professional press, and he appears regularly
at seminars and conferences, on TV and on the radio as an 'expert' on these topics.
He also presents two different and ongoing series of TV seminars on international
property issues: The Ultimate Property Seminar series on Overseas Property TV (Sky
channel 287) and the Buying Abroad seminars on Real Estate TV (Sky Channels 279
& 280). These cover a wide range of subjects related to international property.
The Real Estate TV seminars are also available for broadband download or pay per
view – from www.realestatetv.tv.
The International Law Partnership has many English and overseas qualified lawyers, paralegals and
supporting staff operating from its main offices in London and Leeds. It also has
